Coastal Webinar Series: Part 1

How to Identify Zones from FEMA Maps for Land Subject to Coastal Storm Flowage (LSCSF) and the 10th Edition State Building Code

Presenters: Rebecca Haney, Coastal Geologist with the MA Office of Coastal Zone Management; Mia McDonald, Training, Outreach & Circuit Rider Coordinator with MassDEP Wetlands Program; and Nate Corcoran, Coastal Policy Analyst with the MassDEP Wetlands Program.

CZM and MassDEP will review FEMA flood zones in coastal areas and provide examples and guidance on how to find the Limit of Moderate Wave Action, Moderate Wave Action Area (aka Coastal A Zone), Minimal Wave Action Area, and other FEMA flood zones as they relate to Land Subject to Coastal Storm Flowage (LSCSF) and the flood zones in the 10th Edition State Building Code.

Delineating Primary Frontal Dunes for the Wetlands Protection Act Regulations

Presenters: Rebecca Haney, Coastal Geologist with the MA Office of Coastal Zone Management; and Nate Corcoran, Coastal Policy Analyst with the MassDEP Wetlands Program.

CCZM and MassDEP will provide training on the methodology for delineating and reviewing delineations of primary frontal dunes under the Regulations. The workshop will review the methodology and offer tips for complex delineations, particularly in developed areas where the topography has been altered.

Developed Coastal Dune and Barrier Beach Resource Delineations, Functions, and Performance Standards

Presenters: Rebecca Haney, Coastal Geologist with the MA Office of Coastal Zone Management; and Nate Corcoran, Coastal Policy Analyst with the MassDEP Wetlands Program.

CZM and MassDEP will provide guidance based on the Coastal Manual for delineation of resource areas and assessing the beneficial functions of developed coastal dunes on barrier beaches. The presentation will discuss what information should be requested as part of a resource delineation, what to look for in the field, and sources of information that should be consulted when making decisions.

AMWS is committed to the professional development of our members. As a result, we offer a variety of advanced workshops on wetland science and regulatory updates, as well as webinars, informal nature walks, and networking opportunities.

Additionally, AMWS holds seminars for Licensed Site Professionals on the Mass. Contingency Plan to provide the wetland background they need for spill cleanup. We also occasionally co-sponsor events of sister organizations.
